Manno d’Albizo degli Agli (Francesco’s business partner in Pisa) searches a wet nurse for his illegitimate son. Margherita gets tangled up in a complicated search for the “ideal wet nurse”, with very little success. Altogether, she finds eight potential wet nurses (most of them recommended by others), investigates on the quality of these women as wet nurse and discards them all one after the other. She finally comes up with an interim solution: Margherita asks a wet nurse of her neighbourhood and one of her female servants (Colomba) to go and bring Manno’s son to her house in Prato, and then sends them all to another wet nurse she has found in Prato or in its surrounding area. As Margherita specifies, that wet nurse is only meant to breastfeed the baby temporarily until she finds a better one. The arrangement of the pick-up service, however, faces unexpected difficulties when it turns out that the baby is not in Florence.
